As Archi.ru previously reported, since 2016, the Royal Institute of British Architects has replaced the Berthold Lubetkin Prize, which was awarded for the construction of a member of the institute outside the European Union, with the RIBA International Prize, the broader RIBA Awards for International Excellence (it was planned to celebrate the 20 best projects, although this, for the first time, there were twenty-one laureates), as well as an award for young architects. All international awards are scheduled to be presented every two years.
We have published a long list of 30 buildings on five continents, common to all three awards. Of these, after visits by the RIBA awards committee members, 21 buildings were selected, marked with the RIBA Awards for International Excellence - “Award for International Excellence”, and from this shorter list, the best building for young architects was selected, as well as six objects, candidates for the "Grand Prix" - the RIBA International Prize itself (the winner will be announced on November 24, 2016, after visiting all the buildings by the main jury). In publishing these seven structures, we note that they are all public buildings that, according to the jury, contribute to the context and life of the local community.

Studio Rural Urban Framework
per hospital in Andun village, Baojing County, Hunan Province, PRC
2014
Founded in 2005 by John Lin and Joshua Bolchover at the HKUrban Lab of the University of Hong Kong, Rural Urban Framework is a nonprofit studio that designs for charities based in China. In the case of Andun village in southeastern China, the customer was the Hong Kong Institute for Integrated Rural Development Harvest. The new hospital is a model institution dedicated to addressing the severe health problems in rural China and supporting much-needed health care reform. The building, which replaced the old building, has a lobby and a waiting area usually absent in rural hospitals, and it is also as open as possible to the surrounding village. Located on a slope, it is organized around a gentle ramp and stairs connecting all its levels - from the garden and playground below to the roof terraces. They let in air and light, but protect the interior from prying eyes. The walls are made of terracotta-colored concrete blocks with rounded holes in each. Monolithic concrete and old bricks were also used during the construction. During the work on the project, the architects worked closely with the director of the institution and the local health department.

Special mention should be made of the acoustics quality in its three concert halls, comparable to world analogues and suitable for the performances of symphony orchestras.

In detail
the memorial published on Archi.ru differs from many similar ones not only by the formal decision, reminiscent of the fragility of peace between peoples, but also by the principle of the location of almost 600,000 names of those who died on the Artois Plain in the First World War: alphabetically, regardless of citizenship, military rank and the religion of those who once wore them.
