The building, which was ordered by the state-owned company RIVP, a developer and manager of the municipal fund for social housing, is located on the outside of the Boulevard Pereferic ring road, but still within the boundaries of Paris. The house is located on an "island" between two streets converging at the crossroads and therefore is clearly visible from all sides. To create a unified image, its volume is faced with bricks, but the monotony was avoided thanks to the terraces of the third floor and the vertical "break", which additionally provides the interior with sunlight: these areas are decorated with golden metal panels.
The first floor is occupied by a kindergarten for 66 children; the third floor is a public one, there is a gym, a media library, a communal kitchen, common rooms, etc., designed for the joint use of residents of both hostels - for working youth (160 people) and for workers who arrived in Paris from other cities and countries (60 people): to bring these two groups under one roof was an important goal of the customer. Each apartment (these are compact studios of two types - for one tenant and for a parent with a child, with an average area of 18 m2) has a kitchen corner, which can be shuttered if desired, and the furniture is designed by architects specifically for hostels, including a transformable bed of two types (it can be removed during the day). Bathrooms have natural light thanks to light wells.
There are two wind turbines on the roof that provide electricity for the kindergarten during the day and hostels at night. Their effectiveness is due to the location of the building in the "wind corridor". Also, solar panels are placed on the roof, providing 30% of the energy needed by the building.
The construction budget was 19.6 million euros, its total area is 9300 m2.
