The architects of the bureau are renowned experts in the field of interiors for commercial establishments. When working on cinemas, they try to identify and reflect the meanings associated with cinema. For the design of the two-tiered multiplex of the Jinyi Cinemas chain at the R&F Haizhu Square in Guangzhou, the authors chose the theme of meteors - an atmospheric phenomenon known for its brightness and transience. The plot not only brings the complex together, but also captures the transitory nature of the meteors, preserving their unprecedented dynamism. So the architects wanted to pay tribute to the work of the filmmakers, the result of which is just as short in relation to the effort expended.
In the lobby, visitors are greeted by an impressive installation of rods descending from the ceiling, simulating a meteor shower. To enhance the effect of a lively volumetric shape, the rods are directed in two directions. The length and position of the individual elements were calculated on a computer and then perfected on site during installation. The dynamism of the form, enhanced by the beveled end of the elements, creates a contrast to their stationary mass. The installation is made of aluminum and painted in an elegant wood grain color scheme.
The numbers and designations of the halls in the passages echo with the lobby. They also shoot from the walls, contrasting with the calm background and dramatizing the space. These elements are made of stainless steel. The walls of the corridors, thanks to the texture and slopes with different rhythms, also convey the idea of a meteor shower, but already in stone. In different rooms, the architects gave a number of different design options, subordinate to the title motive. In the IMAX room, for example, this effect is achieved through lighting, in other rooms, patterns and decorations on the walls are used, and the seats are replaced by sofas, which allows you to sit comfortably and enjoy the starfall in front of the film.
