In early December, the winners of the annual international student drawing competition - Drawing of the Year - were announced at the Aarhus School of Architecture. This year, the contestants explored the theme of everyday utopia in their works. Since last year, only drawings made using digital technologies are accepted for the competition. Using a digital pen, 3D rendering, collage, and a host of other media, the contestants sought or created a utopia in today's chaotic world. 234 students from different parts of the world took part. The organizers noted the excellent technical skills and the variety of creative ideas that formed the basis of the work.
Below are the pictures of the three winners.
First place
One day unit
Charles Weinberg and Shai Ben Ami
Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, Israel
The figure shows a grid of 29 globes that demonstrate numerous options for organizing the urban environment, the daily life of humans and animals. The jury noted the high technical and conceptual qualities of the work, its varied scale (from a general plan to a large one, where you can study the details).
Second place
Amazonia
Richard Morrison
University of Westminster, UK
The well-known virtual hypermarket Amazon has become a key way of reflecting the structure of the modern world in this work. According to the jury, the author raised a topical topic, since the dependence of a modern person on Amazon and other online stores is growing and becomes not utopian, but real.
Third place
Cinderella's Lost Shoe
Iphigenia Lyangi
Bartlett School of Architecture, UK
This drawing contains images from mythology and fairy tales. The idea is to renounce society and its norms in order to follow the dream.
