Tamasa is located between the center of Phnom Penh and its international airport and is designed primarily for a multicultural group of expats, tourists and business travelers. Therefore, it was important for the customer to do without a rigid separation of private and public spaces, on the contrary, he wanted to "introduce" people living in the same building, who usually would hardly have met.
Private and public areas are linked by the building's design as an urban area, with “nooks and crannies” in which to get lost. In addition, the apartments are connected to the common areas by large windows and doors. The facades are protected from the sun by screens, but the wind penetrates the public spaces, creating natural ventilation for the building, which is very important in tropical climates.
Community (and socializing) for residents is also provided by the hotel, a restaurant with a terrace café, a swimming pool on the top floor, and cooperation with a nearby sports club.
The quality of construction in Cambodia still leaves much to be desired, so the architects separated the building frame from the interior components, which allowed them not to worry about high precision during the construction of the building. According to the authors, such a move also improved the quality of the project as a whole.
