For every $ 1 billion spent on a project, $ 135 million is in the cost of risk. At the same time, 56% of these $ 135 million (that is, $ 75 million) are risks associated with ineffective communication. Ibrahim Hassan, a project management expert and business coach, spoke about this curious statistics, as well as how to resist it, at a closed master class.
It was decided to celebrate the beginning of spring in the furniture company BENE RUS with benefit: on the evening of March 1, in the showroom at 27 Petrovka Street, a private master class for architects and heads of architectural bureaus was held under the title: "Communications in an architectural project - how to prevent a damaged phone" … Project management expert Ibrahim Hassan discussed with the guests how to properly build communications with all project participants, effectively distribute roles and responsibilities between them, and how to avoid a “damaged phone” when transferring information. In this seemingly childish game, the participants played with pleasure and saw how quickly data is lost when more than one person is involved in the process.
“2 out of 5 projects do not achieve the set project goals. At the same time, 50% of the blame for failed projects lies with the lack of effective communication, - said Ibrahim Hassan. - In order to minimize communication risks, it is necessary to clearly plan communications for the project, manage and control them. So, in any work it is impossible to let the informational component take its course, it is important to regulate the basic principles of communication, key participants, the methods of communication used, the frequency”. The expert suggested a practical checklist for effective communication management in the project. For example, it is always important to choose the appropriate type of communication depending on the recipient (“to always speak with the person in his language”), to record all agreements on the project in writing - “if it is not written anywhere, then there was simply no agreement”. In addition, regardless of the composition of the participants, it is always necessary to keep minutes of meetings and meetings and send it to the participants within an hour after the meeting.
The master class was held in a fun and interactive format, and after that everyone could still communicate with an expert in a more informal setting over a light buffet table.
