Raphael and Yulia decided to talk about the use of fabrics in architectural design using the example of an elite mansion near Moscow. One of the main ideas of the architect and designer is that today, in the age of post-industrial society, a residential building, as in the 18-19 centuries, remains the most important indicator of the status of its owner. The only difference is that modernist architecture and modern textile design provide a greater variety of possibilities and images for the embodiment of the ancient human desire to confirm their position and success.

Together with the ARTE DOMA design team (A. Ilyushchenkova, N. Romanova, M. Melnichuk, D. Kanchana) Rafael Shafir created a very cozy and at the same time unusual and stylish interior in this seemingly impenetrable “real fortress” from outside. A large number of Custom made designs and daring experiments with fabrics. This is a project in which fabric is the main finishing material.

For example, there is an impressive lamp called "School of Fish". The work uses silk from Jim Thompson. With the arrival of darkness, a multi-colored fabric screen of unusual illumination brings liveliness to the semi-dark space of the room.

None of the interior spaces were left unattended by ARTE DOMO. The creative team experimented quite a lot with the introduction of fabrics into the interior. The rounded volume of the living room is separated by a bright silk partition with a geometric pattern.

This sliding screen, like the reversible curtain, is made of Jim Thompson silk.

Rafael Shafir uses not only light silk, but also dense woolen fabrics of Pepe Penalver and Holland & Sherry in decorating the space. A double-sided curtain for the summer living room is made of them.

In the center of the winter living room is a sofa with atypical armrests, upholstered and cushions upholstered in fabric from the Jim Thompson Tony Ducuette collection.

Another interesting point is working with lighting. Spider lamps are attached to the ceiling of the cinema. This room is upholstered in soft stretch Bute wool panels.

Arrangement of recreational areas is the hobbyhorse of designers. Opposite the sofa upholstered in Bute-New Selkirk is a pair of Rebecca armchairs. A multi-colored carpet is made of the same material. Interestingly, this seating area is fenced off from one side with special felt panels with ABR perforation.

Wall and ceiling panels made of Jim Thompson-ERATO fabric create a completely unexpected effect. They are installed in the bedroom.

With colorful mats, it's always easy to organize a new social space in your home. The collections of Osborn & Little-Pullman, Osborn & Little-Severini, Osborn & Little-Papini were used for them.

This is how Rafael Shafir and the designers from ARTE DOMO saw the modern house.
