A new resort near the coast of the Korean Bay, 300 km south of Seoul, built in a dense cypress forest. It is adjacent to the Seungju Country Club; the customer was SJCCglamping, owned by the world's second largest steel company, POSCO. This is not just a recreation center, but an example of "glamping", a combination of glamor and camping, that is, about a "glamorous hike". In this case, we are still talking about a rather modest version of "minimalistic luxury", as the authors of the project describe it, but spending a night at this resort costs like a room in a 4 * hotel, which is much more expensive than hotels in the area.
The key feature of the project is the prefabrication of all buildings produced away from the construction site, which was especially important for the natural environment with difficult terrain. Suhyun Chan has developed three types of lodges that can be used in other settings, including as temporary accommodation for vacationers before the start of capital construction on the site. With proper care, the module is designed for a service life of 10-15 years and for local climatic conditions, that is, winter temperatures up to minus 20 degrees Celsius, and summer temperatures up to plus 40.
Each of the 16 houses has a living area of 50 m2, two bedrooms, a kitchen and a bathroom. The cost of such a dwelling without furniture, kitchen and bathroom finishes is comparable to the price of a family car; Toyota Prius, for example, is more expensive. It takes about 8-10 weeks from order to completion of production.
A bright shell of two layers of non-combustible and waterproof fabric by Serge Ferrari with a layer of insulation between them is stretched over a steel frame. The house is anchored on a platform, the edges of which serve as an open terrace. The platform rests on steel supports, and those on concrete piles in the ground. In the interests of privacy, the windows use a double-layer polycarbonate, but if desired, it can be replaced with glass.
In addition to housing, the staff of Atelier Chang also designed the restaurant building, where the reception is located. It features a striking main façade with white steel profiles to protect the interior from the sun.
Suhyun Chan emphasizes that the most important thing in her plan was to keep the guests of the resort in contact with nature (which is achieved by the very scheme of light and small buildings), as well as to protect them from prying eyes - therefore, all residential units are oriented so that they are hidden from each other by trees. …
