Zoidas was originally built as a business district, but today there are a lot of residential buildings - it's another matter that many of them are indistinguishable from glass office towers. Inbo architects consider this approach to be wrong: the appearance of the building should speak of its purpose. This is why they chose Hagemeister clinker for both of their multi-storey developments here. We have already written about 900 Mahler, and now we will talk about Intermezzo with a height of almost 90 meters: this is a building with 175 apartments ranging from 50 to 1000 m2. Note that next to it there is a residential complex "Brothers Gershwin" by other authors (more about it - here), where on the facades there are also Hagemeister products.
The overall dimensions of Intermezzo were set by the masterplan for the area, developed by Pie de Bruijn from de Architekten Cie. From the side of the street, it rises as a sheer wall with rounded corners and large windows, and from the courtyard, the floor area is dynamically decreasing as the height increases. Inbo's architects used these constraints to create a “staircase” of spacious terraces there, including the most spectacular 300 m2 penthouse, a true urban villa on top.
The authors of the project sought to create an easily recognizable image of a residential building for Intermezzo, therefore they chose a material friendlier than glass - clinker. In addition, they needed light-colored facades, and only high-quality bricks, which Hagemeister offers, could keep their original appearance "spotless" for many years without damage from smog and humid climate.
At the request of the architects, the company's specialists developed the Intermezzo HS grading system based on Weimar HS and Östersund HS. It is a clinker made of two types of clay with a light engobe coating. The creamy tone is complemented by red and yellow markings, and the texture is reminiscent of traditional hand-molded brick. Given the large size of the building, facade panels are used here, which is taken into account in the nature of the masonry, masking the seams between them.
The Hagemeister clinker has become a part of an emphatically urban, "elegant" palette of materials: the eight-meter basement with a supermarket inside is faced with golden natural stone, stone and oak wood are used in the interiors of the residential complex.
