The last few years for Russia have been rich in large-scale sporting events: the Olympics in Sochi, the World Ice Hockey Championship in Moscow and St. Petersburg, the Winter Universiade in Krasnoyarsk, and finally, the 2018 World Cup, the matches of which were held in 11 cities. During the preparation, dozens of world-class sports facilities were built, most of which were not without PENOPLEX® thermal insulation.

Stadiums

PENOPLEX® slabs insulate the structures of most stadiums of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, including the St. Petersburg Gazprom-Arena, a high-tech and most visited in Eastern Europe.

Perhaps its most interesting feature is a roll-out field, which is "removed" for concerts and other events, which provides the stadium with versatility, and the lawn - additional aeration and safety.

The playing field is equipped with a drainage system, heating, irrigation, and also includes three layers of PENOPLEX® heat-insulating material, with a total thickness of 230 mm. This material is durable, biostable, it has a low coefficient of thermal conductivity, zero water absorption, and it has been serving for more than 50 years.

Slabs were also used to insulate the staircases of the stadium bowl.

PENOPLEX®, which withstand at least 27 tons per m22… PENOPLEX® boards are mounted simply like a children's designer, but they create a reliable, durable and moisture-proof heat-insulating layer.

PENOPLEX® boards insulate the roof, basement or foundation of such stadiums as Luzhniki, Fisht, FC Krasnodar, VTB Arena, etc.

Ice arenas

The high heat-insulating characteristics of PENOPLEX® materials are able not only to retain heat in the premises, but also to maintain a low temperature of ice surfaces.

The Moscow CSKA Arena hosts hockey matches, figure skating competitions and ice shows; it includes three grounds: a large, small and training area. All used PENOPLEX® boards, which were laid in two layers in a checkerboard pattern to avoid cold bridges.

Extruded polystyrene foam withstands multi-ton loads, does not absorb water, does not deform, and has a consistently low thermal conductivity. In 2015, CSKA Arena received the status of "Best Completed Project" among sports facilities.

PENOPLEX® slabs were also chosen for the Ice Palace and figure skating school in St. Petersburg, ice arenas in Sochi, reconstruction of the Medeo skating rink in Kazakhstan. The material is also successfully used on sites for mass sports, for example, at the VDNKh skating rink.

Pools

To maintain the desired water temperature, the pool bowl must be insulated.

In the Moscow sports complex "Gravitation" with PENOPLEX® plates, an indoor pool for a wakeboard measuring 70x25 meters is insulated. The material can withstand the weight of a filled pool bowl, does not allow water to pass through, is not afraid of fungi and bacteria and has a low coefficient of thermal conductivity. In such systems, the choice of exclusively moisture-resistant materials is especially important.

Gravitation is not the first wakeboarding facility where PENOPLEX products are used. In 2014, in Kronstadt, an outdoor two-level wakeboard pool with illumination was put into operation, for waterproofing of which a PLASTFOIL® polymer membrane was used. PENOPLEX® boards are also perfect for rooms with high humidity levels in fitness centers and hotels.
