The project was authored by Herzog & de Meuron and is part of the plan for the renovation of the sports facility for the 2008 UEFA European Football Championship to be held in Switzerland and Austria.
The new building will contain both offices and apartments. It will also house the UEFA press center during the championship.
The solution of the building in the form of a tower is determined by the small area of the building plot, as well as by the task of providing all future owners of office space and housing with panoramic views from the windows and protecting them from excessive sunlight.
The first tier will be occupied by shops and open to all public spaces with natural light and ventilation. Above it there are two floors of office premises, and from the fifth to the thirteenth floors, offices will be located on the north-east side, and apartments on the south-west side. The fourteenth floor will be completely given over for housing.
The architects themselves describe the shape of the building as a "sharpened prism." On the south side, its facade will be broken by deep openings of balconies, on the north - it will be smooth and equipped with reinforced sound insulation, since on this side the highway and the railway will pass by the tower.
