The Department of Design of the Architectural Environment is relatively young, it was opened at the Faculty of Architecture of St. Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering only seven years ago, among the employees there are not only experienced teachers, but also young specialists.

Teachers, graduates and students of the department are engaged in the following issues: the formation of a comfortable urban environment, activation of inefficiently used territories, giving identification to a place, improving urban ecology.

To get an idea of the specifics of the department, we propose to get acquainted with the final works of the masters of this year: we publish 10 diplomas out of 37, especially noted by the examination committee based on the results of the defense. The projects are dedicated not only to the development of St. Petersburg, but also to other cities of Russia, as well as the Leningrad region.

A pedestrian bridge as a new kind of public space

Christina Pedos, head S. V. Bochkareva

The concept suggests looking at the bridge in a new way: as a small architectural form, an open urban space or a multifunctional object. For each type, a real and most suitable plot of land in St. Petersburg was selected: the "bridge-fountain" is located in a historical environment, "bridge-park" - in a residential, "bridge-shopping street" - in an industrial one.

Regeneration of railway infrastructure and its transformation into a public space

Evelina Khachaturova, head of I. G. Shkolnikova.

Ekaterina Rebrova, head of A. F. Eremeeva

Comprehensive work proves that the railway can be not an obstacle, but a part of the green frame of the city, a point of attraction for residents and tourists, a space that unites the urban fabric of two districts.

Evelina Khachaturova proposes to place a multifunctional complex with transport hubs, a business and cultural center on the site of the Finnish railway marshalling yard. The multi-tiered composition unites buildings and public spaces.

It is proposed to integrate the inactive rails into the improvement of the park, and from the carriages to make mobile objects with public functions: a cafe, a stage, an observation or playground, an exhibition, a summer cinema / lecture hall. The "Upper Park" on the embankment becomes a soundproofing from the operating railway.

Formation of public space in the area of the sea and railway stations in Vladivostok

Nikita Batrakov, leader P. I. Loshakov

The author explores the possibilities of transforming landside territories into modern public spaces. The project was based on the concept of "Artificial formation of natural relief", aimed at revealing the visually lost plastic features of the city. The project also solves the problem of “alienating” the city from the sea.

Architectural and design solutions for a technopark at the site of the L. Nobel"

Yulia Myznikova, head of A. F. Eremeeva

The plant "L. Nobel”, once a unique enterprise, a witness to the innovative activities of the Nobel brothers, is now in disrepair. Yulia Myznikova offers him the function of a scientific and technical cluster, which corresponds to the past of the territory and allows it to be used throughout the day. Education, a start-up center and a museum become "anchor" functions, and events such as science festivals and exhibitions can also be held here.

A special place is occupied by public spaces: a two-level embankment of the Neva with a square, an intra-quarter event square, courtyards of the Nobel town. The former industrial area becomes open and accessible.

Architectural and design solution for the territory of the suburban campus

Olga Astratova, head S. V. Bochkareva

Olga Astratova developed a concept for the development of the territory, which was transferred to SPbGASU for the placement of a suburban campus. The work was carried out in close cooperation with the university administration and formed the basis of a working project, the implementation of which has already begun.

A plot of 10.5 hectares is located in Krasnoe Selo, not far from St. Petersburg. On the territory will appear: a scientific and experimental center, a greenhouse complex, guest modules for students and teachers, a training ground for a driving school of SPbGASU.

Identity in the design of the architectural environment of Vyborg

Anastasia Ladigan, head S. B. Danilova

The concept is based on a strategy for the development of continuous pedestrian and tourist routes and a frame of public spaces in Vyborg.

The concept demonstrates an integrated approach to creating a qualitatively new appearance of the entire territory and disclosing its historical and architectural potential through the creation of a system of event-filled public spaces, small architectural forms, new points of view of town-planning attractions. A special place in the work is occupied by city branding: logo, pattern, information design objects.

Complex formation of the architectural environment of urban settlements of the Leningrad region

Anna Belyaeva, supervisor S. B. Danilova

The study was carried out on the example of the urban settlement Sovetsky, located not far from Vyborg.

The main tool of an integrated approach is the development strategy - a universal algorithm of actions, following which it is possible to improve the quality of the architectural space of the territory.

The author came to the conclusion that the key and most popular public spaces in Sovetskoye are the city square and the planned beach in a small bay, which are united by a pedestrian promenade. It is proposed to arrange a complex of pavilions on the square with high-rise accents in the form of towers that perform different functions: an information point, a museum, an observation deck. The administration of the urban settlement Sovetskiy recommended the work for implementation.

Renovation of the environment of the Vorontsovsky Square microdistrict in St. Petersburg

Elizaveta Vladimirova, head D. A. Romanov

Renovation of the mass residential development environment of the 1960s-1980s is one of the most pressing problems in most Russian cities. The concept of humanizing the environment is not based on increasing the square meters of housing due to densification, but on improving the quality characteristics of the environment.

Elizaveta Vladimirova proposes a step-by-step strategy for the development of such a development using the example of the identified typical units of the Vorontsovsky Square microdistrict, including local design solutions that take into account the history of the place.

Transformation of the system of open public spaces in the northern city

Ksenia Mechetina. Leader P. I. Loshakov

The author proposes to turn the squares of Ukhta into “city living rooms”. Open spaces surrounded by buildings are seen as points of attraction where citizens meet and spend their time in different ways. They differ from an ordinary living room in a house in the scale of events and the number of participants.

As part of the concept, a code name was chosen for each square, which reflects the specifics of the space and the chosen scenario: square-symbol, square-garden, square-game, square-forum, square-contact, square-museum.

Development of public spaces of the coastal zone of the historical city on the example of Tver

Valeria Mastyukova, head I. G. Shkolnikova

The main idea is to transform and develop a neglected coastal zone. The project is aimed at creating a continuous pedestrian frame and creating a comfortable, safe, attractive environment for various groups of the population. The concept is based on the historical context of the city, the individuality of the place, as well as the existing planning system. The work received a positive response from the Committee for Architecture of the Tver Region.
