What is architecture of the XXI century? There is no single answer to this question. There is no specific style of leadership. Architects work in a variety of styles, from postmodernism and parametric architecture to conceptual volumes presented in the form of architectural sculpture.

And this definition is fully consistent with the diploma projects completed by students of the Faculty of Architecture, the Department of Architectural Design of SPbGASU in 2020.

A variety of approaches and solving the most complex tasks. Context-conceptual solutions at the master plan level. Revealing the volumetric-spatial solution associated with technological processes in the designed objects, the influence of the image on the shaping - all this can be seen in the best projects of bachelors and masters of the Department of Architectural Design of SPbGASU.

In the final master's theses presented for the defense in 2020, a huge research and design work has been carried out. The issues of the synthesis of arts and the influence of innovative technological processes on the formation of the architectural appearance of the building are being addressed.

Data center on the Neva

More and more data is transmitted over the Internet and stored on servers. A data center is a specialized building designed for storing, processing and distributing information. The super-technological facility forms the silhouette of the Sverdlovskaya Embankment and can become one of the symbols of modern St. Petersburg.

Three blocks of the data center with office, service and technical premises are surrounded by the volume of a greenhouse. The buildings are made of metal modular cells, inside which the equipment is placed. The modules are attached to the load-bearing reinforced concrete columns of the frame. Cold outside air enters the cells, cooling the equipment, and the outgoing hot air, using the forced ventilation system, enters the basement of the towers, from where it is sent to the building's heating system.

An important idea of the project is the concept of "openness". The data center is available for public viewing, while protected from intrusion by unauthorized persons - the buildings are buried in relation to the ground level by 2.5 m, which creates a security buffer zone.

Elena Voitsekhovskaya:

Daria's project is one of the master's theses, carried out in the spirit of the times: it solves the problems of designing new types of buildings, and also examines the influence of innovative technological processes on architecture.

"Architecton" of the Russian Museum

Anna Novikova

The project of a multi-profile complex of the Russian Museum was developed for the site on Butlerova Street near the Shchigrinsky Square. The author proves the expediency of borrowing the architectural image from the classical facade of the Mikhailovsky Palace, on the one hand, and from the compositional model of "architecton", on the other. The composition is dominated by multi-colored parallelepiped towers.

The complex is aimed at both restorers and visitors: a space is being created for storing, restoring and exhibiting art objects, and a single zone of workshops and exhibition space is being organized for the guests of the complex. Planning solutions provide various types of employment - scientific, creative, restoration, security, exhibition. Superfunction - reorganization of the surrounding area in accordance with the requirements of the new facility.

In Anna's work, the synthesis of arts is reflected in the volumetric-spatial composition of the designed object, while solving the most complex technological requirements applied to these types of buildings.

Non-linear community center

Valeria Dzhigil

The projected building is cut off from the main residential area by a new canal. This solution resulted in the task of designing bridges, and then in the idea of connecting them with the building itself, thereby making the object not only architectural, but also landscape.

Fascinated by algorithmic design, I laid the foundation for shaping the nonlinear Lorentz attractor, which is essentially a dynamic system. After creating a simulation of this process and transforming it into geometry, I began to think about how exactly it can be integrated into the structure of an architectural object. So the idea was born to make capsule aquariums and design an oceanarium, to add entertainment to the object not only outside, but also inside. The result is a functionally heterogeneous building.

Marine facade

I used the concept of soft separation of public and private spaces, which harmoniously coexist in the quarter thanks to the buffer in the form of public squares and public floors. The motive for creating the architectural appearance of the houses was the silhouette of a ship, inspired by the proximity of the bay and the sea terminal. This motif is supported by the plastic facades of the houses, which create the image of waves. Particular attention is paid to the formation of the "sea facade", the appearance of which is created by lowering the number of storeys to the center of the quarter and terraced houses.

Elena Voitsekhovskaya:

Another no less striking work of the bachelor. The author was faced with the task of solving a "sea facade" using residential buildings. Public and residential spaces are interconnected, the embankment is included in the public promenade zone without prejudice to private areas. The character of the "sea facade" is created by lowering the number of storeys towards the center of the block and public areas and increasing the number of storeys towards the ends, in order to increase the number of apartments overlooking the bay.
