Public spaces bureau West 8 is dedicated to enhancing the face of this Spanish "economy class" resort. Instead of cheap beer bars on the waterfront of this suburb of the capital of the island of Palma de Mallorca, a new promenade will be laid along the 6-kilometer beach, the green area of Ses Fontanelles will be preserved, where a shopping center was previously planned to be built, another park will appear near the Gesa high-rise building - with an underground garage underneath.
The hotels facing the waterfront will be replaced by more modern hotels. As a means of transportation, locals and tourists will be offered environmentally friendly tram lines (which will connect the resort with the airport and with Palma de Mallorca itself) and bicycles that can be rented.
The most ambitious part of the program is the congress center complex with a hotel and a hall for 2,400 spectators.
With their project, the architects tried to form a new look for Playa de Palma - associated with the concepts of "culture", "ecology" and "health". The implementation of their plan should begin in two years, and be completed by 2015.
