We present eight works created by leading Swedish architects especially for the Architecture Projects: Skeppsbron exhibition. All of them are united by one theme - the future of Stockholm. The exhibition was organized by the Swedish National Center for Architecture and Design (ArkDes); This spring, the drawings and layouts could be seen at the ArkDes gallery, and until November 10, they are shown at the Seoul Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism.
The architects examined the future of the Swedish capital using the example of Sheppsbronn, one of the oldest and most underrated corners of Stockholm. The design object is a small coastal area on one of the islands of the archipelago. This place served as a kind of "showcase" for Sweden: a spacious embankment with elegant houses was the first thing that was seen by foreigners arriving on ships. Trade was also conducted here, people met and communicated. Now most of the area is occupied by parking, and the conventional public space does not have its own identity and is not popular with the townspeople. The exhibition "Architectural Projects: Sheppsbronn" was the occasion to start a discussion about the possible transformation of the old part of the city and the whole of Stockholm.
AT-HH
My dream city
/ City of My Dreams
The title of this project is borrowed from a 1960 novel by Swedish writer Per Anders Vogelström, which tells about the life and life of the working class. AT-HH dedicated their work to ordinary residents of Stockholm, however, invented. The team “collected” the stories of “fantasy” townspeople and, on their basis, created a model of the city of the future.
In the bibliography attached to the project, in addition to Vogelström's book, there are also "memoirs" allegedly published in 2019. These stories combine the present, the past and the imaginary. The stories, on the one hand, reflect the current state of the city, on the other, they constitute its essence as a product of collective activity.

Scenery for intended expression
/ Scenes for Future Expression
Sheppsbronn, which has always been the center of transformation and constant movement, is now just a void between buildings and the sea. The architects propose to return the embankment to its "former glory" and turn it into a platform for cultural innovation, into a place for experimental creativity. A series of scenes will appear there, which will be partially in the water, thereby erasing the border between the two elements. The buildings can be used by locals, passers-by, and tourists, and the program will be constantly updated.
Hermansson hiller lundberg"Written on the Water"
/ In Water Writ
“We live in a time that does not understand the nature of public space,” complains representatives of the Hermansson Hiller Lundberg bureau. In his native Stockholm, there are no suitable recreation areas: they are either in private hands, or divorced from modern realities, or oversaturated with an entertainment program.
The Swedish trio believes that the Scheppsbronn is worthy of a real public space: “noisy, festive, ambiguous, rebellious” and human-centered. To do this, you need to remove absolutely everything from the area and leave only two basic components - space and water. The main point for walks and meetings will be land, and all transport and entertainment infrastructure will be located on the water.
OKK +"You"
/ You
The OKK + team recalled the long-standing Swedish tradition of allemansrätten. "Right for everyone" - enshrined, by the way, at the legislative level - says that in this country a person can freely walk wherever he wishes, as well as ride a bicycle, put up a tent, etc. The only condition is not to harm nature.
The architects believe that Scheppsbronn needs spaces without any function, so that the townspeople can make sense of it themselves, much like when traveling in the allemansrätten style. The area must be "drawn" into equal and simple elements, they also emphasize the regular layout in the background. There is only one thing missing to make it work: you.
Krupinski / Krupinska"Wall"
/ The Wall
The creative tandem is sure that the Old Town should be surrounded by a solid wall and a city garden should be equipped there. It will turn out to be a kind of tranquility in a noisy metropolis. It will not be so easy to get into this "fortress": to finally feel safe, you will have to stand in a long queue.
This project is a reaction to the fear and anxiety that hovers over Stockholm (over the world?), And to the chaos that has now gripped the international political arena.
Linnstrann Tour
/ Tor Lindstrand
Crystal of Time
/ Time Crystal
The idea is borrowed from the utopian concept of the German architect Bruno Taut. He proposed grouping the districts around the "city crown" - a large complex that would include an opera and drama theaters, a greenhouse, a community center, and a library. Above this large building should be completed by a structure made of crystal on a reinforced concrete frame - "pure architecture" that has no functional purpose.
Thor Linnstrann proposes to build a similar crystal on the Scheppsbronn embankment. What luxurious interiors hide its shimmering walls can only be guessed at.
Nilsson Ram
/ Nilsson Rahm
Dead island
/ Island of the Dead
A place for reflection, where one can feel sad and indulge in the memories of the departed, will appear on the new island of Stockholm. The material for "building" a piece of land will be borrowed from the Sheppsbronn embankment.
The bank of the reclaimed area will be fenced off with vertical pavilions, from where it will be possible to observe the city panorama, as well as a garden and a pond located in the center of the island.

Another day, another time
/ Another Day in a Different Time
The embankment will have to be raised two meters higher due to the rising sea level associated with global warming. Sheppsbronn himself, as conceived by Elizabeth B. Hatz, will become a center for conscious consumption and care for the environment and its people and animals. Right in the city center, Stockholm residents will grow vegetables and other cultivated plants, communicate, exchange things, help each other repair household items, and in the evenings they will hold holidays and festivals.
In a day, the townspeople will clean their embankment, and all the garbage will be sorted and sent for recycling. The word "waste" will disappear from everyday speech, as all components will be reused. In Stockholm of the future, residents will again begin to actively use water transport, and gyms will disappear as unnecessary.
