On October 9th, VELUX, a leading manufacturer of roof windows, is organizing a symposium on daylight in architecture.

The eighth daylight symposium will focus on the role and importance of daylight in creating sustainable buildings that are resilient to the environment. The joint work over two days will focus on the exchange of knowledge, experience and points of view that will help push the development of architecture in harmony with all aspects of human life.

During the event, lectures by leading researchers in the field of medicine and construction will be held, as well as presentations by leading practitioners from around the world.

The symposium program will consist of 3 plenary and 4 parallel sessions, in which more than 40 speakers will take part.

The main speakers will be:

  • Aisha Diakite (Germany), researcher and daylight engineer. Her research integrates daylighting strategies into the design of urban structures to maintain human health.
  • Andrew McNeill (USA), a leading expert in daylighting, is working to improve the capabilities of the Halio® automation system. As a daylighting consultant at Arup, Andy has provided daylight and electric lighting designs for world-class museums, healthcare facilities, libraries and offices.
  • Carolyn Karmann (Switzerland), is a postdoctoral researcher at the Laboratory for Integrated Design in Design (LIPID) at EPFL. Her research focuses on the gap between visual comfort, preferences and interests based on the subjective and behavioral responses of residents.
