The Spinningfields business district is built into the historic center of Manchester, glass volumes of office buildings with low personality. On the contrary, Hardman Square, located among them, lived a "bohemian" life for a long time: concerts and massive screenings of matches on the big screen were held there, and pop-up bars appeared. But the developer of the area Allied London decided to bring this space to order, making it, however, "warmer" than the rest of Spinningfields.
Now there is a four-tiered "Pavilion" with a "Field" in front of it (just like that, with a capital letter). Sheppard Robson architects, despite the private and commercial nature of this space, sought to move away from order and order, bringing maximum naturalness to Hardman Square.
Pavilion houses the Ivy restaurant chain, but its function is less important than its appearance. This is a wooden structure with a frame taken out to the outside, where the rectangularity is broken by diagonal trusses and cantilever arms. The abundant landscaping introduces even greater "disorder". Climbing plants play a significant role there, which is combined with the name of the restaurant: "Ivy". The roof terrace boasts an entire tree-lined garden.
The tree and greenery of the Pavilion is complemented by lawns and flowerbeds of the Fields, a reminder of the history of this part of Manchester.
