Gavrilov posad is a very quiet city in the Ivanovo region, 50 kilometers from Yuriev-Polsky; historically - in the fertile, and therefore early deforested Suzdal Opolye: this is a fragment of black soil in the Central Russian non-black earth. The city is extremely small, the population is slightly less than 6,000 people; its panoramas are not available on Yandex maps. The main attraction is the stud farm, first mentioned in 1632, the building was built under Catherine II, operated until 2013 (!), Where Vladimir heavy trucks were bred. Plus several merchant houses and churches of the 18th century, dilapidated, but decorated with ribbons of flowery stove tiles. The city adjusts to a melancholic mood, in addition to several not very ancient monuments, it consists of a private sector interspersed with five-story buildings and looks abandoned.
Until recently, the central Sovetskaya Square in front of the House of Culture also looked abandoned: the landscaping on it was "simple Soviet": tiles and lawns, it's hard to say when it appeared, but by 2015 it was overgrown with grass so that it was just right to talk about "land without a man." … Meanwhile, the city, which is within the diameter of the Golden Ring route, plans to soon become a part of it and become a tourist center. One of the projects on this path was the improvement of Sovetskaya Square, financed from three sources: the federal program "Comfortable Urban Environment", 50 million rubles, the city budget, 27 million, and, in addition, in 2018 the city won the competition of the Ministry of Construction for the improvement of small towns and historical settlements, which gave another 30 million, in total, if you count, it turns out in total 107 million. True, the project submitted to the Ministry of Construction competition and winning in 2018 looked, to put it mildly, somewhat frightening:
But somehow it happened that in the process of discussion, revisions and it is difficult to say what else, a completely different project was adopted and implemented, not the one that was at the competition of the Ministry of Construction, but developed by Vladimir Kupriyanov's SPACES bureau.

Ivanovo media write, ahead of schedule, discussed with local residents, the actual work was photographed. But the point, of course, is not in discussions, but, probably, in the fact that the squares managed to be given a new quality, on the one hand, fashionable and metropolitan, but this is required, among other things, for a city that claims the status of a tourist center - it needs get rid of the feeling of abandonment, and it is logical to start from the center. On the other hand, the authors set themselves the task of demonstrating the identity of the county center, and, perhaps, they succeeded. In any case, from some angles, and especially if you look not to the northeast, where the club was built in 1965, but with a pediment, but to the southwest, where the house-palace of the late 18th or early 19th century, and behind it the bell tower of St. Nicholas Church, - it turns out well, slender, well-groomed, but not regulated. At least shoot a movie.
In principle, this provincial palace, slightly damaged, but intact, is the closest monument to the square with a good classicist article. He, like the bell tower, "stretches" the area, and the square in its present form “plays along” with it, maintaining a significant measure of regularity - if only because there is a lot of paving. But its seriousness is diluted with geo-plastic slides surrounded by boulders, which one would like to call alpine because of the stones. It is easy to guess that the "Soviet" square was oriented towards the recreation center and served as its direct continuation. Now everything has become more complicated, in the new square, the confrontation between the Palace of Culture and the palace, of course, remains, but the emphasis has shifted to the monument. Or so: one looks at the other, each has its own specifics, and the area makes an attempt to somehow comprehend this dialogue.

The authors talk about the uniqueness of the landscape of the Suzdal opolye - and indeed, the view from above is stunning.
The patchwork landscape of multicolored fields became the basis for the asymmetrical and multicolored paving pattern.
And at the same time, there is not much such mosaic paving, it is on the edge, along the shopping arcades, and the main spot of the square is shaded with light and dark gray stripes, emphasizing the regular urban status of its space.

Meanwhile, when viewed from above, the asymmetric contours of the geo-plastic inclusions draw smooth contours akin to the lines of city streets, outline natural paths of movement, which are rarely orthogonal, and "swing" the rigid rectangularity of the square. Hills, albeit small, form unobtrusive boundaries of space, organize, preventing it from becoming too large, sweeping and uncomfortable. They may remind someone that not quite here, but near Suzdal, but the mounds have survived.
A separate pride of the authors is the children's playground located in the western corner, in front of the palace. In addition to structures made of planed logs, slides and swings, a cone house, there is a dry fountain here, which you can run along in the summer.

The fountain is equipped with a steam generator, which allows for performances in the evenings.
Not everything has been implemented - the plan shows that the improvement project covers the area behind the shopping stalls, and on the renders, however, as always, flowers and trees bloom more luxuriantly and there are transport stops, which, it seems, are not yet available. But geoplastics, a fountain and a platform have been implemented, which already allows the new area to be perceived as a whole. The trees can grow and the project can continue.
