Roughly speaking, an autonomous sewerage system is a reservoir - with one chamber or several, with different methods and degree of water purification, depending on the model. The advantage of most septic tanks is the ability to filter waste, thereby reducing the frequency of pumping or cleaning, as well as using water drainage, including into drainage wells.
Drinking and even industrial water at the outlet will not work even with the most modern systems - this should be taken into account. Especially if the water is "filtered" by microorganisms - at the exit, their content in the water will be quite high. If you plan to use the water for irrigation, ask the specialists how to additionally disinfect or defend it.
Which septic tank is right for your country house
The first important criterion is the volume of the tank and the intensity of the flow of sewage waste. Usually calculated based on the number of people living in the house, plus a contingency margin.
The second criterion is the degree and method of water purification. In some septic tanks, water is simply settled and filtered from suspended particles, in others, aerobic or anaerobic bacteria are taken over, and in others, modern filters are responsible for cleaning. Some models drain water that is purified by soil, taking into account the permissible degree of water absorption by the soil.
The third criterion is installation and availability of electricity. If the simplest septic tanks operate autonomously, then the treatment plants, as a rule, require a network connection. In addition, there are separate requirements for the soil during the installation process and for the fastenings of septic tanks - it is better to check this point with a specialist after conducting geological surveys.
