The competition was announced at the end of last year by the Department for Development Projects of Territories of the Oryol Region. 49 hectares, with which the participants had to work, are located in the historical center of Oryol, and the authorities decided to carry out their transformation taking into account the opinion of the townspeople.
In total, the organizers received 48 applications from architects from different regions of the country. 17 pre-selected finalists were invited to develop the projects. In addition to the expert council and the competition commission, local residents took part in the evaluation of ready-made concepts. The best project was recognized by the architectural bureau Heads Group: it is expected to be implemented within two years. The prize for the winner was 400,000 rubles.
Below are the projects of the three winners.
First placeHeads Group
The project presupposes the maximum preservation of the landscape formed in the competitive territory and the minimum impact on the natural environment. The architects form three key zones, the first of which is Victory Park, supplemented by a skate park and workout areas and aimed at the younger generation. The second is the "Noble's Nest" for quiet rest and leisurely walks. And, finally, the literary square - for visiting museums, getting to know the history of the city and cultural enrichment. The last authors of the project got rid of high fences, making it more friendly and conducive to a long stay.

Second placeCreative team led by Nikita Vasiliev
The architects tried to achieve the unity of the territory in terms of not only stylistics, but also infrastructure, transport and pedestrian accessibility. The park area becomes a place for walking and playing sports, the historical part remains practically untouched - the authors of the project have supplemented it with small architectural forms, information stands, an expanded observation deck and various recreation areas. Another proposal is to form a common historical and literary route across the entire competition area, which will be of interest to residents and guests of the city.

Third placePRYSM GROUP
The authors of the project divided the territory into three clusters: Literary Quarter, Noble Nest and Victory Park. Each has its own landscaping, while the architects tried to work as delicately as possible with objects of historical and cultural heritage. The unifying link for all clusters is the embankment with berths, bathing houses, gazebos for rest and reading and other functional areas. In general, the renovated territory becomes suitable for many scenarios of year-round use - visiting museums, walking and playing sports, holding events and exhibitions.
