How to choose a bed that won't break in a year
The design, color scheme and shape of the bed are of course important. But all this loses its meaning if it is made in violation of technology, from materials of poor quality or, even worse, containing harmful components. Ormatek has been producing sleeping furniture for almost 20 years. The company's experts point out three key criteria that affect the life of the bed: product design, materials, proper operating conditions. Let's dwell on each of them in detail.
Design. Bed base
The centerpiece of any bed is the base. It is designed to support the mattress and should provide, or even better - enhance its orthopedic and anatomical properties.
The best anatomical effect is provided by lattice bases made of wooden lamellas, unfolded with the curved part up. Under the weight of the mattress, they straighten, but at the same time they spring, preventing it from sagging in the central part.
Ormatek beds use lamellas made of seven layers of birch veneer, which are fastened together, alternating strips with transverse and longitudinal fibers. Each of them can withstand a weight of up to 70 kg. The distance between the lamellas should not exceed 8 cm, otherwise the springs and mattress filler will fall into the voids and it will quickly deform.
For springless and memory foam mattresses, solid laminated MDF boards and solid wood podiums are suitable. They will not bend under the weight of the mattress and will help to maximize its orthopedic properties.

Fasteners
High-quality fasteners are made of galvanized stainless steel. The joints of the frame parts are pulled together and fixed with furniture bolts with the most accurate geometry and a strength class of at least 8.8.
So that the lamellas do not creak or burst, they are fastened with the help of special elastic holders made of rubber-plastic.
If you choose a bed with a lifting mechanism, give preference to models with a gas lift. Such a lift is more expensive, but it is much more convenient to use and more durable than spring counterparts.
Bed legs
For a double bed with a heavy base and a large mattress, four legs are not enough. Better if there are six or more. Additional supports usually support the heavily loaded center of the base and help distribute it evenly. Only in this case, the frame will maintain a stable geometry, the fasteners will not loosen, and the bed will be stable.

Bed materials. Frame
The main characteristics that the materials for the manufacture of the frame must have are strength and safety for health. These requirements are met:
- Solid wood - Karelian pine, birch, beech, ash. Wooden beds are very strong, environmentally friendly, and look luxurious and noble.
- Certified chipboard plate with formaldehyde emission class E0.5. It contains no more than 2.8-4.0 mg / 100 g of formaldehyde and other harmful components, which is half the norm in European standards.
- Metal - forged beds are made of it, it is the most durable material available today.

Soft elements
To give the beds rounded shapes, to make a soft headboard, polyurethane foam or other bulk fillers are most often used.
In the company "Ormatek" these are safe materials that have passed certification for compliance with European standards.
- Ormafoam - elastic artificial foam reminiscent of natural latex. Environmental friendliness of the material is confirmed by the international certificate CertiPUR.
- Polyester fiber - in terms of softness, elasticity, springy structure, it is similar to natural wool, but unlike it does not cause allergies.

Varnishes and paints
When using varnishes and paints, it is important that they do not evaporate, decompose, or cause irritation when in contact with open skin. These requirements are fully met by Italian products certified according to EN ISO and DIN EN ISO standards, safe even for cots and toys.

Correct use of the bed
The third condition for the durability of the bed is proper operation.
- When choosing a model, take into account the weight of people who will sleep on it, make sure that it does not exceed the load for which the base is designed.
- Do not stand with your feet on the slatted grate, do not jump on the bed.
- Do not overload drawers and baskets.
We hope that the advice of the Ormatek experts will help you choose a bed that will provide a sound comfortable sleep and will serve for many years.
