This renovation was Hollein's second completed project in the immediate vicinity of St. Stephen's Cathedral. The first was the controversial "Haas-Haus", the visual transition from historical buildings to "avant-garde" which should be carried out by the renewed Generali building.
The glass penthouse has five luxury apartments, each with an area of about 260 sq. m and with a beautiful view of the cathedral. The building itself was built in 1885.
Generali's contribution as developers to its renovation amounted to 7.5 million euros.
The interior decoration of the superstructure is scheduled for completion in early 2006, and the exterior of the penthouse already looks in line with the final design. It should be noted that the overall height of the building remained the same, that is, the historical appearance of the quarter was preserved as much as possible.
