This happened in connection with the announcement of a competition for a project for the reconstruction of the entire territory of the island with an area of 70 hectares: in order to attract more attention to it, journalists were familiarized with this plan.
Although the project is still purely hypothetical, it should inspire the participants of the competition for broad ideas and bold ideas. New York Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg said the island needed "scope and scale" for architecture; as for the proposal of Calatrava, there are no concrete plans for its implementation.
The architect himself thinks differently: according to him, work on the project went on for four months, and it may well be implemented
The cable car with suspended gondolas should start from the Governor's Island terminal, branching from there towards Manhattan and Brooklyn. Each of these lines is capable of transporting about 3,000 people per hour; each gondola must accommodate nine to twelve passengers and departs every 20 seconds.
The project cost is $ 125 million. The road will pass at an altitude of 60 m, so it will not interfere with water communication and will not harm the ecological purity of the Hudson River.
