In the Napa Valley, a famous wine region in the United States, since the 1980s. wine production facilities were erected according to the designs of famous architects, starting with Michael Graves and Friedensreich Hundertwasser.
Craig Hall, the owner of a Dallas investment company, bought the vineyards there in 2003, and in 2004 Gehry designed a new winery ensemble for him, organically incorporating a building that had served for this purpose since 1885. The $ 100 million project then horrified local residents. In their opinion, another gigantic structure of this architect faced with titanium will disrupt the natural harmony of the landscape and attract crowds of tourists to this very popular area. As a result, Gehry radically revised the project, which was unanimously approved by the authorities in 2006.
The complex covers 11,000 sq. m of usable area. Its central part is a spacious glass, stone and wood tasting room. The floors of the hall will have a wavy shape characteristic of Gehry's buildings; lightweight concrete or wood will be used as the material. The winery complex will include solar panels with a total area of almost 4,000 square meters. m.
