In 2003, the house was in serious danger: it was put up for auction at Sotheby's. If it was bought by any idle collector, the building could be dismantled and moved to any point in the world chosen by its new owner, or it could be rebuilt. But community organizations then managed to raise enough donations to buy Farnsworth House ahead of the auction.
Since then, the monument has been maintained in good condition by the Landmark Preservation Council of Illinois, but funds are constantly lacking. Therefore, Brad Pitt, who declared himself a fan of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, demanded that the Japanese jeans company be filmed at Farnsworth House for their commercial. As a result, the housekeepers were paid $ 10,000 per day to rent the "room" for four days, not counting various fees.
