This huge hoop, made up of ten rectangular blocks, will be included in the complex of the "Trans-Oceanic Quarter" in the port of the city, which, in turn, will be part of the large-scale project "HafenCity". According to it, the area of Hamburg with an area of 155 hectares between the city center and the Elbe will be completely reconstructed and turned into a modern zone of cultural institutions and business activities.
The science center will be built right next to the water, at the entrance to the Magdeburg harbor, and cargo ships and cruise liners will pass by. It will connect the city with the port area and become a symbol of Hamburg's economic prosperity and the development of science and technology there.
The new building will house the Science Center itself (offices and laboratories), the Aquarium, the Science Theater, as well as a shopping center.
The new complex will be the core of research and education and outreach activities in Hamburg.
The exhibition space of the Center will be as “flexible” as possible: it can be adapted for almost any type of exposition, curators will be able to create direct links between individual building modules, divide them into several parts, or, conversely, combine them. Visitors will begin their inspection of the halls at the “base station” almost at the very top of the structure and gradually descend, passing through the halls of popular science exhibitions on topics such as “Everything flows” or “The origin of life”. On the underground floor with an area of about 8.5 thousand square meters. m will open a huge aquarium. There you will be able to get acquainted with various marine life: from the latitudes of Hamburg to the Red Sea.
The upper tiers of the Science Center will offer views of the city and the harbor. Open terraces at the top of the individual building blocks and at the foot of the building will be transformed into attractive public spaces.
