The celebration is entirely dedicated to the creator of the magazine, the outstanding Italian architect and designer Gio Ponti. In honor of the anniversary, two weekends - February 16 and 17, as well as February 23 and 24, the Domus editorial staff conducts free tours of Milan Ponti - the eight most important buildings he built in this city: including the famous skyscraper - the Pirelli tower (there are more than 60 buildings designed by Joe Ponti in Milan), and the number 911 in February is entirely devoted to the story of his work.
Domus is considered the world's most influential architecture and design magazine. Its first issue appeared in Milan on January 15, 1928. Ponti served as editor-in-chief of the magazine until his death in 1979 (with a break in 1940–48). He was replaced by Alessandro Mendini, then - by Mario Bellini and Vittorio Magnago Lampuniani. At the turn of the 1980s and 1990s, Domus was actively expanding its presence in the international arena: along with the bilingual English-Italian edition, a Chinese version appeared, as well as 6 Russian issues.
In 1996, the post of editor-in-chief was first taken over by a non-Italian - Swiss Francois Burckhardt. In 2000, he was replaced by Dejan Sudzic, who brought new trends to the magazine's politics: under him, materials about car design and fashion appeared in Domus. In 2004, the direction was transferred to Stefano Boeri.
In recent years, the magazine has covered a wide range of issues, including the spheres of cinema, contemporary art, photography and philosophy. Also, the editors hold architectural competitions that have a great resonance. Domus can be bought in 88 countries of the world, and this year its Russian-language edition has reappeared. Since 2007, the post of editor-in-chief has been held by the Italian architect Flavio Albanese.
