Norman Foster's architectural firm has designed two separate but side-by-side complexes for males and females with calves, each comprising an open space and a glass-domed "home." The floors in the premises will be covered with natural rubber, which will be heated in winter, as the legs of elephants are very sensitive to the cold. Both buildings will be united by a wide terrace from which visitors can watch the elephants.
Additional rooms will be arranged under the terrace, from where it will be possible to follow the behavior of animals inside their "dwellings", and an explanatory exposition will also be arranged there.
Natural light through the glass ceiling, rainwater collection devices and natural ventilation make this a truly "green" property.
