The new development scheme involves the construction of seven skyscrapers located along the central passage and separated by areas of greenery. The height of the towers ranges from 180 to 400 m, if you count the spiers that end them. In total, the new buildings will have more than 900,000 sq. M. m of usable area.
All seven buildings are of the "classic" American skyscraper type: these glass prisms should bring to the Chinese metropolis the spirit of global entrepreneurial activity, associated worldwide with Wall Street or with the second American city of high-rise buildings after New York - Chicago, with which Chongqin is also linked by a similar economic specialization.
In addition to offices, the new buildings will house hotels, apartments, shops.
Also, the KPF workshop presented another ambitious project - a new Midfield terminal (i.e. located in the center of the field) for Abu Dhabi airport. The emirate's air port is currently undergoing renovation with a total budget of $ 6.8 billion, and the X-shaped terminal should be the main component of this restructuring.
After the completion of the first phase of construction in 2012, the new construction with an area of almost 550,000 sq. m will receive 42 gates for aircraft (there will be a total of 90).
Now the airport's capacity is 8 million passengers a year; thanks to the new terminal, it will increase by 20 million by the end of the first stage of reconstruction, and in 15 years it will reach 60 million people and more than 2 million tons of cargo per year.
The design of the term, based on huge steel arches, will maximize the area of spaces without internal supports, which in the future will make it possible to easily change the functional purpose of individual parts of the building. In its center there is a large conservatory serving as a waiting room, and a decorative pond will be arranged at the entrance. The curved silhouette of the concrete floors of the terminal should resemble those around the dunes.
