Due to their penchant for perfectionism, architects often design furniture for their own buildings. In addition, in the 1990s, Russians developed this habit due to the lack of established supplies of furniture from abroad and the squalor of local production. Nevertheless, it is one thing to design for your own projects, it is quite another to come up with things for competitions of mass producers, as Panakom does.
And now their Walkiria doorknob is sold all over the world. The time is not far off when audiophiles will buy Panacoma-designed speakers. The enthusiasm of architects is obvious - quite often, instead of one object, whole series appear. “We need a reason to sit down and paint,” the authors explain. - And here we are "killing two birds with one stone": seemingly a rest from architectural creativity, but at the same time its comprehension through the design of a small form - from the perforated wall of the bedside table to the facade of the house. " Denying any superiority of architectural thinking over design, they still see an advantage in their position. “Our consciousness is not engaged. When a person is in this field all the time, then he and the ideas hovering around him seem to be of the same temperature, - explains Arseny Leonovich - coming from another sphere, you seem to crash into cold glass, onto which these ideas fall in drops”. Among their works there are those that have been developed for several months and made in the evening over a cup of tea. At the same time, none of them looks home-grown, architects clearly fall into the modern mainstream. One problem - judging by the results of the competitions, foreign manufacturers expect only variations on the theme of the Russian avant-garde and constructivism from our compatriots. But an object of industrial design is even better at home because it can be realized in a different place and at a different time.
Hold me
The Walkiria handle is so far the only serial project of the bureau. It has been on sale all over the world for a year now. The order was received as a result of a competition organized in Russia by the manufacturer of door fittings Valli & Valli with the help of the Triumfalnaya Marka dealer company. Interestingly, "Panacom" did not take any prize in it, but it was their development that attracted Italian manufacturers most of all.
The spiral bend of the Panakomov model follows the ergonomics of the holding hand, which bends due to the difference in the length of the phalanges (Maybe add pictures?). A similar spiral design by American designer Yoshimi Kono has even earned the title of the most comfortable pen in the world. But in Kono, the curving part is attached to the door with an ordinary cylinder, while the Panakomites created a more organic shape. It's funny that in the beginning this pen was one of three plasticine "sausages" molded by the architects during the sketching process, and now, they say, contracts have already been signed for the installation of Valkiria pens in the Federation Tower. By the way, over the past year they began to produce its window version. The architects hope for a quick release of the already drawn series of hooks and latches in the same style.

Delight bar
Nespresso, positioning itself as a Bentley in the coffee world, has announced an international competition for a collapsible lounge bar to be installed at a variety of exhibitions. "Panakom", with its striving for completeness of expression, offered a complex solution to both functional and artistic tasks. The main part is a "dancing" ring, reminiscent of steam from hot coffee. Made from lightweight foamed corian with playful inscriptions about pleasure and joy, changing in cross-section, it becomes either a bar or a sofa. In addition, two more types of separate polyurethane seats have been invented: a coffee bean pouf and a refined high stool. In this way, all the ingredients for a coffee enjoyment are brought together.
With one gesture
A series of 24 tables was invented by Panakom also for the competition. Push-push, water lily, polyp - each of them has its own image. The feature that unites all the variations is the laconicism of the technique. Regardless of whether four legs are at the table or one, this structural part is one integral part, which is both beautiful and convenient to manufacture. Take, for example, table number 7 - to make it, a sheet of steel or veneer is enough, from which a pattern is cut and folded. The number of operations is minimized. Of course, it will be more difficult with plastic tables, however, 3D print technology is already quite widespread.
