Zaha Hadid Architects designed a 200,000 m2 central block. Their concept is based on a drop of water hitting the surface of the earth. Elliptical buildings should direct the prevailing winds towards public spaces, and awning structures should create optimal conditions for landscaping (it is planned to use local species of flora). The reservoirs will be filled with “recycled” and “recovered” water (condensate, etc.). It is also planned to use "recycled" water for irrigation. The first stage of the development of the central quarter will include cafes, shops and entertainment establishments designed for families.
Aljada was presented to the public in September 2017, construction is scheduled to begin in 2019 and completion in 2025. The project budget is 24 billion dirhams (370.8 billion rubles). The infrastructure is handled by the engineering company CH2M.
