Representatives of the gay community will become the main residents of this modern, eco-friendly and socially oriented community called Boom - although anyone can live there: the project has become more "open" as it has developed, and now is designed for people of all lifestyles. There will be mostly pedestrian traffic, as well as a very unusual architecture. The project promises to change the perception of the urban environment of the XXI century, making it friendly and comfortable for different age groups. As the ideologists of the project emphasize, the city will be organized according to the principle of inclusion, not solitude and separation, and the elderly will be able to live there as fully as possible, without feeling “retired”.
The city is planned to be built on an area of about 40 hectares, in the town of Rancho-Mirage. The master plan was developed by the New York bureau Hollwich Kushner (HWKN). It is assumed that within the framework of the first stage, the construction of which is scheduled for 2012, housing and infrastructure for 300 residents will be built here; at the second stage, another 300 will be added to them. The basis of the general plan will be 8 mini-blocks, each of which designs its own office - ten in total, from New York, California and Europe. Housing promise to build a variety of types and costs: from condominiums to single-family houses.
The geographic and social center of the settlement will include a Diller Scofidio + Renfro project with a rooftop disco covered in artificial fog. They will also design an open market for the city. In addition, the center will host two boutique hotels jointly developed by Slovenian architects Sadar + Vuga and New York bureau Joel Sanders Architect, a café designed by Rudin Donner Design and Healing Fun House. Particular attention is planned to be paid to a healthy lifestyle: a large health center and even a spa resort will be built in the city - both are being designed by the German bureau J. Mayer H. Architects. The project also involves the Israeli bureau L2 Tsionov-Vitkon, Lot-ek (New York), Surface Design (San Francisco).
The first phase of the settlement will cost the developer - BOOM Communities - $ 250 million, it is planned to finish it in 2014. The search for tenants is already actively going on on the project website.
