The 46 apartments of the new building are intended not only for the homeless, but also for the mentally ill residents of the city. In addition to housing, the building also houses the premises of rehabilitation services and everyday life. To connect the building with the surrounding area, a store was opened on its ground floor for residents of neighboring quarters.
The architects paid particular attention to the "green" elements of the project, as well as ensuring privacy for each of the tenants. The answers to these problems turned out to be complementary: for example, multi-colored panels of porous aluminum on the main facade not only protect the premises from overheating, but also close the premises of the apartments from views from the street, while letting in sunlight and fresh air. The same function is performed by a sunscreen on the south side of the house - with asymmetrically located openings. At the same time, the layout of the premises allows maximum use of natural lighting and ventilation, thereby reducing energy costs: the Step Up on 5th complex is 50% more energy-efficient than a traditional building of the same area.
