The 9-story "Brompton Diamond" complex (named after the surrounding area) will include a store on the ground floor and 9 luxury apartments above it. It will be erected on the site of the 1960s, between the 19th century terraced houses. This environment has led many to oppose the new project: the conservation organization English Heritage and local heritage groups have filed a total of 85 objections against Shuttleworth's work and his Make workshop. But despite this and the fact that recently Prince Charles again opposed any non-traditionalist architecture, and Kensington is considered the "royal" district of London, the project was approved by the authorities and even recommended for inclusion in the future in the list of monuments.
The facade of the building is made up of two parts: the lower one, made of dark gray bricks, connects the building with the surroundings, and also serves as a "frame" for the upper one - a glass multifaceted volume resembling a precious stone.
This "diamond" is made up of transparent and matte panels with a layer of thin metal mesh. This layer will protect the interior space of apartments from views from the street, and will also give the glass a soft shine.
The dynamic crystalline shape of the upper part of the building will visually reduce its volume, as well as revitalize the urban landscape.
