It is located in the Favoriten district, where the dense quarters of the city center are being replaced by the looser buildings characteristic of the outskirts. Also, another watershed runs through the territory of the university: between the green zone and busy transport highways; the situation is complicated by the terrain - from the side of the park, a gentle slope overgrown with grass adjoins the new building.
These factors determined the architectural solution of the building, which received a plan in the form of a meander. The main volume of the structure winds like a ribbon along the space of the site, thus forming two spacious courtyards. It rests on a plinth that houses a series of public spaces: the lobby, main auditorium, auditorium, library, dining room and cafeteria. These rooms are connected with each other and with other levels by visually highlighted transitions - volumes filled with light; they are enlivened by bridges, stairs with wide steps for seating, etc.
The total area of the building is 36,000 m2. It will employ and study 220 teachers and 3,000 students. Its official opening is scheduled for November 25.
