The participants were asked to create a modern version of the existing station near the Museum Park: now it is closed due to low attendance, associated, in particular, with the fact that the adjacent area is considered unsafe. But in the near future the situation should change dramatically, as new buildings of two major cultural institutions will be built in the park - the Miami Art Museum designed by the Herzog & de Meuron bureau and the Nicholas Grimshaw Science Museum.
It is not yet clear how the city authorities will deal with the station, but the organizers of the competition hope that they will get ideas from its winners, from whom the jury demanded, among other things, the realism and functionality of the projects.
The main winners were the team from Melbourne "Office 24/7" (Rosalea Monacella, Craig Douglas and Armando Oliver Swinaga): their station provides a convenient transition from platform to square between future museums and connects the park with the streets to the north of it. The shell-"diaphragm" of the building will be illuminated at night, and the facade facing the museums will become a huge projection screen.
The second place went to the project of the group from Bangkok "See You Sunday *" (Saran Chaiyasuta and Prachaya Vanagul): their station is formed from several wide white "ribbons" wrapped around the flyover.
The third prize was received by the team from St. Petersburg "DoubleKatya" (Ekaterina Mikhailova and Ekaterina Vasilyeva): they proposed to erect a lattice structure of dynamic forms over the platform.
