The six best options were selected from 544 projects submitted for an open competition. Now architects who have passed to the second round will be able to improve their projects until February 2013, when they will be re-evaluated by the jury. The final results of the competition will be announced in June 2013.
Since the competition is anonymous, the projects of the finalists differ in mottos and numbers. They were selected based on their relevance to the context: the building will be located opposite the Parliament, near the concert hall "Finland" Alvaro Aalto and
Museum of Contemporary Art "Kiasma" by Stephen Hall.
Such a responsible location corresponds to the library's function not only as an educational institution, but also as a center for the development of social activity and “initiative from below”.
