The new building is located very close to the Chartier Dalix biodiversity school, which is popular with our readers. Both buildings appeared as part of the reconstruction of the industrial zone of the Seguin Island and the adjacent territories in the Boulogne-Billancourt area: residential and office buildings are now being built there according to the projects of famous architects, for example, Dominique Perrault: we wrote about his reconstruction of the business center of the 1970s last week.
Golden Cube, like the neighboring school, was originally supposed to develop the theme of biodiversity: this is what is laid down in the master plan of the A4 Vostok site where they are located. Therefore, in the hostel, despite the limited area of the site, they arranged a garden; the facade also serves the purpose of introducing elements of wildlife into the city center.
The façade, enclosed by perforated gold-colored aluminum panels (hence the building's name - "Golden Cube"), hides the birdhouses behind these permeable surfaces. At a height of 2–5 m, shallow dwellings are arranged for sparrows, titmice, redstarts, and above 5 meters there are larger houses for swifts. All of them are made of moisture-resistant larch and giant thuja wood. The cabins are inaccessible to Golden Cube's two-legged residents and do not require any maintenance.
The eight-storey building has 156 rooms, almost all of which have a loggia. These loggias, like the use of perforated metal, blur the boundaries of the building, giving dynamics to a compact volume.
The total area of the building is 3200 m2, the budget is 4.5 million euros.
