This structure houses various student public spaces and a library with a collection of 500,000 volumes. The main difference between the new building and similar ones is the complete absence of internal partitions. The interior of the one-storey building is the only room with an area of 20,000 m2. Various functional zones of the building are separated from each other by "hills" and "valleys": the volume of a rectangular building in the plan is agitated or pulsating; the distance between the floor and the ceiling always remains the same, but the building either rises on the ground, then falls down. For those who cannot or do not want to walk in this landscape, "inclined elevators" are arranged.
Due to the height differences, spaces are visually closed from each other, including acoustic “zones of silence” and “zones of silence”, where students can calmly study, although there is a cafe and an auditorium with 600 seats nearby. Also, 14 “patios” - rounded glazed gardens that cut the same holes both in the floor and in the ceilings of the building - help to divide the interior, illuminate it with the sun's rays and connect it with the surrounding space. The building touches the ground at only a few points, so another public space has been created underneath.
The base of the building was cast in concrete using laser cut wooden formwork; the whole process was controlled by a GPS system in order to achieve maximum accuracy. The walls are completely glass and the roof is made of wood and steel. To avoid damage caused by the building sagging, each glass panel is fixed separately from the others, and its position can be adjusted as needed.
