An ensemble of slender towers with a total of 2,000 apartments will appear in the new city of Songdo, part of the Incheon metropolis. All buildings will have only one apartment per floor, which will provide each of them with sunlight from the south, as well as views from the windows and natural ventilation.
The buildings will have a load-bearing facade, which will make it possible to create a free layout in the interior. The staircase and tower elevator will be grouped against a single wall devoid of windows. This solution will allow the project to be harmonized with local legislation, which requires that the distance between the windowed facades of neighboring buildings is equal to the height of the larger one. But if you turn the towers towards each other with blank walls, this condition may not be met, having placed the buildings rather compactly.
The tenant will decide how to decorate the main wall of each apartment: you can choose between panoramic glazing, an open balcony or a transformable structure that allows you to alternate these two options depending on the season.
A garage will be built under a hilly park at the foot of the towers.
The architects emphasize that such a solution of the residential complex makes it more convenient than traditional towers with 4 or more apartments per floor. At the same time, it is impossible not to foresee problems with overheating of ultra-thin buildings (especially considering the warm and even hot climate of South Korea), which will not be neutralized by the mass of the building, as well as with the cost of material during the construction of several structures instead of one large one.
