The ensemble, consisting of seven buildings located around the perimeter of the quarter, was erected in Ijburg, the “growth area” of the Dutch capital. It will be a predominantly residential area spread over seven artificial islands. Solids is located on the largest - Haveniland, and serves as a kind of gateway to the island.
From the outside, the complex resembles a traditional "office building": first floor colonnaded galleries, facades with regularly spaced rows of windows, balconies and natural stone cladding. But in reality, all seven of its buildings have received a very progressive layout, allowing them to be used according to any desire of tenants - as offices, a hotel, a medical or legal institution, a public institution, studios or apartments. The fact is that solid facades hide an empty "case": a reinforced concrete frame made it possible to deprive the interiors of supports and load-bearing partitions, as a result, spaces 20 m deep were formed, which can be transformed as you wish. All built-in elements can be moved, the stairs are grouped in the “core” of each building, the ceiling height reaches 4 or 6 meters.
The architects emphasize the durability of their creation: the best materials have been used for it, and all the details have been carefully thought out. In addition, the possibility of transformation, as you know, significantly extends the service life of a building: it is suitable for any program, therefore it will never become obsolete and will remain in demand on the real estate market.
