The architects will celebrate their professional holiday this coming Monday. Nizhny Novgorod will host a series of events timed to coincide with the World Day of Architecture and Living Environment, and Moscow will host the conference "Modern architecture of the world: the main processes and directions of development", organized by the Russian Academy of Architecture and Construction Sciences. A photo exhibition by Alexei Yakovlev entitled "Classical Architecture of Italy", which will open in the exhibition hall of the Union of Architects of Russia on October 7, is timed to the same holiday. On the eve of the Day of Architecture, "Arhnadzor" will hold its citywide rally on Pushkin Square. City rights activists are going to take stock of the "new urban planning policy" of Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, who has been in office for exactly one year.

Perhaps for ordinary Muscovites, the central event of next week will be the opening of the large-scale festival Sretenka Design Week 2011, which brings together numerous initiatives in the field of art, architecture, graphic and industrial design and is designed for both professional and general audiences. The territory of the festival this year will be not only Sretenka Street, but also Tsvetnoy Boulevard, as well as the Tsvetnoy department store. Among the participants of Sretenka Design Week 2011 are such bureaus as OKRA (Netherlands), PoleDesign (Russia), Norrland (Sweden), architects Nikita Asadov, Vladislav Kirpichev, Ivan Ovchinnikov (head of the City project) and many others.

An exhibition dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the architectural studio "Evgeny Gerasimov and Partners" will open at the St. Petersburg Ethnographic Museum on October 4. Within the framework of the anniversary exposition, the most significant projects and buildings of the company will be presented. A separate category of objects for display will include works created in collaboration with the Speech Choban / Kuznetsov workshop. And in Moscow, Sergei Tchoban's talent will be revealed from a completely different side - on October 6, Duravit will present at the Central House of Artists the Esplanade collection of furniture and equipment for bathrooms designed by the architect.

In St. Petersburg next week there will also be a conference "City guide: history and modernity", in the framework of which experts will discuss what and how today it is possible and necessary to tell about the city on the Neva to its numerous guests. And in the Leningrad region the conference "Architecture of Vyborg: space and time" will take place. Its main topics will be the problems of restoration of the Vyborg library, discussion of the project of the protection zones of Vyborg and the new general plan of the city.
