The reconstruction project of the old port of Aalborg was developed in 2004 by C. F. Møller Architects. For their concept of redevelopment of the former port area, the architects were awarded the first prize in an international competition, in addition, the project won a number of professional awards, including The Roadway Prize, 2011, The Danish Lighting Award 2011 and the Aalborg Municipality Award for the best architectural project 2010 of the year.

One of the main problems that the architects had to solve was that the territory of the port was actually cut off from the center of Aalborg - a highway with very heavy traffic runs between the former shipyards and the rest of the city. And although the track itself has not gone anywhere, the part of it that runs along the landscaped area (a section about 1 km long) has radically changed.

Traffic lights and pedestrian crossings, green islands and a boulevard appeared here. Green promenades with all kinds of benches and bike paths also flank the road on both sides.

The central part of the reconstructed territory was designed by the architects as a complex of play and public areas for various purposes. There is also a beach, an ice rink, volleyball courts, and gazebos with seating for leisurely chess games and conversations. Trade pavilions and tourist information offices are made of easily erected steel structures, which in their aesthetics are as close as possible to the industrial past of the area.

There was also a place for viewing platforms, oriented to the water surface of the bay and outwardly resembling captain's bridges, made of concrete and sheets of perforated steel.

The western part of the territory is completely set aside for a large-scale park, in which, in addition to playgrounds, there are several cafes. The eastern part also ends with a square, but it has a completely different theme - adjacent to the new exhibition center named after the architect Utson, it is decorated with benches designed according to the sketches of the author of the famous Sydney Opera.
