Oddly enough to imagine, but in Rio, people not only sunbathe on the beach and dance samba, but also work in offices. This fact is confirmed by the new work of Mayer's workshop: the building will become the headquarters of VINCI Partners and will be built in Leblon, the most prestigious area of the metropolis.
The layout is based on two main components - open plan offices and extended open terraces that connect the interior with the urban environment. In his new project, Mayer remains completely true to himself: a refined vocabulary of forms, combinations of horizontal and vertical planes, white … for the appearance, but also due to the fact that the building will be exclusively "green".
This is achieved, first of all, with the help of the correct orientation of the building to the cardinal points. For example, the main entrance is located on the west side, and to protect itself from the bright afternoon rays, it is recessed in relation to the facade and equipped with louvered walls.
On the east side, the building has been moved away from its neighbors to create a small courtyard and let natural light into all office spaces. The plants in the courtyard are combined with a green vertical garden on one of the walls, while contrasting with the "sterile" surfaces of concrete, aluminum and glass: this opposition is based on the expressiveness of the project. I must say that this is a programmatic antithesis for Mayer: in his work, architecture as a creation of man is always clearly delimited from nature.
But the new office must fit organically into the urban development: the master respects the architectural heritage of the key city of Brazil, and its construction is conceived as akin to the existing environment and, at the same time, enriching it.
