Recall that Villa Tsai was built in the state of New York for a young couple of contemporary art collectors. Having settled in their house, the collectors ordered another object to their favorite tandem of architects - a guest house.
And although formally this building is intended to receive friends, the protagonists of the created space again became not people, but all kinds of artifacts - the customers asked to include not only the obligatory bedroom and living room in the new house, but also a small exhibition gallery, the exposition of which they could change according to as the collection grows. The most interesting thing is that these rooms are not isolated from each other, but only separated by conditional screen walls.
And if the villa itself was designed in a very technocratic way - it represents several blocks-"boxes" connected by transitions-vestibules and lined with sheets of corrugated metal - then the architecture of the guest house, on the contrary, is completely dictated by the landscape. The house is delicately inscribed in the existing relief (a strong drop made it possible to create a garage under the house) and is built from a bar, on top of which corten steel panels are fixed. The soft rusty shade of the latter looks especially impressive in autumn, when the trees surrounding the house begin to turn yellow.
The architects sought to orient the guest house to several local "attractions" at once - the villa itself, the beautiful garden, which the owners laid out, and the protected forest that begins immediately behind the site - and this desire prompted them to make the key decision of the general plan. The house in the plan resembles the letter Y, the "horns" of which are maximally divorced to the sides.
Each wing has a fully glazed end, which allowed landscapes to flow into the interiors of the house. This layout turned out to be optimal for the placement of all three functional areas: a bedroom, a living room and a showroom. Between them, that is, in the dark part of the house, the architects designed a bathroom and a kitchenette, as well as a dressing room with a staircase leading to the underground garage.
