The cultural center, named after an outstanding Mexican writer, is located in the Coyoacan metropolitan area, which is very prosperous and green. In addition to the usual wealthy townspeople, from the beginning of the 20th century. Mexican writers and artists settled here, for example, Octavio Paz and Frida Kahlo. Taking into account the tastes of local residents, the management of the center conceived it as a "communal common room organized around books."
The core of the building is an architectural monument - a mansion of the early 20th century. From the side of the street, a "showcase" is attached to it - a concrete glazed frame, behind which the lobby is located, trees grow and the main facade of the mansion is "exposed".
The historical structure itself constitutes the second part of the building: like the "frame", it is occupied by shelves with books, and the rooms on different tiers are interconnected by openings in the ceilings, stairs, and so on. The third part of the building is a block with an auditorium and classrooms. There is also a small courtyard in the building.
