The single-family house is located in the village of Karis, part of the Raseborg commune. The site chosen for the construction is a kind of land harbor, surrounded by forest and rock ledges. The building is a "pipe" - a single room that increases in size from the entrance to the opposite end, ending with a terrace. It is simultaneously used for sleeping, and as a dining room, and as a workshop or gym. This multifunctional space is typical of traditional Finnish architecture, where it is called tupa or pirtti. On the side of the Apelle there is an extension that supports it constructively.
The house is closely connected with the environment through panoramic windows and glazing of the roof: it serves as a "mediator" between nature and modern man, subordinates his life to the natural rhythm of sunsets and sunrises.
The similarity with the ship is emphasized by two chimney-masts, reminiscent of a deck of a floor board, three round porthole windows. The two carpenters who built the house, who were also involved in the construction of boats, noted that the Apelle was more like a ship than a building in the nature of its work.
The house is insulated with wood-based materials and heated by a thermal pump and two stoves with fireplaces.
All furniture at Apelle is designed by Casagrande himself.
