The largest garage in the province of Utrecht appeared on the De Eythof campus (science park) in accordance with the OMA master plan. First of all, it is designed for employees and students of the institutions located there: the University of Utrecht, the University of Applied Sciences and the city Medical Center. There are 1,500 parking spaces allocated for them.
The remaining 500 are intended for citizens who, having left their cars here and without leaving the garage, can change to a tram or bus going to the city center (De Eithof is located on its eastern outskirts). Their stop is located on the ground floor of the parking lot, together with commercial space (350 m2) and utility rooms.
The parking levels above the 9 levels are slightly sloping, well lit and transparent: this is achieved, among other things, by the atrium located in the center of the building with an elevator and stairs. At ground level, this courtyard has trees and lanterns. All floors are also slightly "greened": about 50 thousand "appliqués" in the form of ginkgo leaves are fixed on the ceilings. There is also room for 200 bicycles in the garage.
The entrance to the parking lot is visible from afar: it is marked by two climbing walls, installed there at the request of the Utrecht Sports Council.
The parking project was developed by KCAP in cooperation with Studio SK / Movares.
