Summer Pavilion in Dessau - student competition

Photo: www.dia-live.com
Photo: www.dia-live.com

Photo: www.dia-live.com The purpose of the competition is to develop a project for a temporary pavilion, in which one could shelter from the rain, the sun, or simply relax, as well as various small events could be held. The most interesting thing about the competition is the location of the pavilion: it will be built near the famous building of the Walter Gropius Bauhaus school.

At one time, the construction of Gropius was an example of technical progress and avant-garde design, and was striking in its "sharpness". Now the contestants will have to impress the public by demonstrating the possibilities of modern architecture with its digital design and production methods.

Maximum building dimensions: 4m by 6m; maximum height - 3m.

Voronezh Sea. Open competition

Illustration courtesy of the organizers. In 1972, a reservoir was built in Voronezh, which immediately became popular among the townspeople. However, after only 20 years, the reservoir became impossible to use as a recreation area: the permissible concentration of oil products, organic substances, salts of heavy metals and suspended solids was exceeded in the water.

To solve the environmental problems of the Voronezh reservoir, two international competitions are held: open and closed. The tasks of the open competition include collecting ideas for the revitalization of the reservoir: ecological improvement, solutions for the development of the coastal part of the reservoir and the prospective development of the territory on a town-planning scale. In the project, it is not necessary to consider the entire territory of the reservoir - you can deal with one or several parts of it.

Voronezh Sea. Closed competition

To solve the environmental problems of the Voronezh reservoir, which, having opened in 1972, became unsuitable for recreational needs 20 years later, two competitions were organized: open and closed.

A closed competition, of course, requires the deepest possible understanding of these problems and a comprehensive solution to the assigned tasks. Participants of the competition, experienced architects, urban planners and ecologists, will need to submit a detailed step-by-step action plan for the revitalization of the reservoir in an environmental and urban planning aspect. The competition includes three stages: collecting a portfolio of candidates to participate, a seminar and concept development.

Experimental Housing in Medellin - Architectural Ideas Competition

Photo: en.archmedium.com
Photo: en.archmedium.com

Photo: en.archmedium.com/ Medellin is a city in Colombia, which 20 years ago was reputed to be the most dangerous in the world: the main problem was drug trafficking, drug lords turned into celebrities, and every day up to 20 people were injured and died from firearms …

However, in recent years, the government has been pursuing an effective social policy, as a result of which crime has been significantly reduced, and public spaces in the central part of the city and in the periphery have begun to develop and multiply. Medellin today is a great example of "social urbanism".

Per year, the population growth in the city due to people moving here from nearby villages is about 30,000 people. Basically, they all live in makeshift shacks on the side of the mountain, and this becomes a real problem - a new poor and uncomfortable area of the city is growing. Medellin's housing program will integrate the residential area into the public center of the city, which is now dominated by retail and office buildings. How to do it in the best way is up to the participants of the competition to decide.

Beijing Cityvision - International Idea Competition

Beijing future home pavilion © Lava
Beijing future home pavilion © Lava

Beijing future home pavilion © Lava This year, the city, the future of which will be designed by the participants of the competition, is Beijing. Scientists suggest that Beijing will soon be the real capital of the world, and the planet's population may acquire pronounced Asian features (given that already now 20% of the world's population is Chinese). Therefore, the participants of the competition need not only to imagine the future of the capital of China from an urban planning point of view, but also to guess what kind of people will live here.

The human genotype undergoes change over the centuries, as do the cities in which we live. Imagining the city of the future, how appropriate is it to “inhabit” it with people with our usual appearance, physical or intellectual abilities? The organizers of the competition, CityVision, offer three development scenarios for humanity: evolution, involution or extinction. One of these areas of development must be chosen by the contestants for their project.
