We talked about the concepts of the four winners recently; the jury awarded the first place to the consortium of the English Groundlab, the Moscow Wowhaus and the St. Petersburg Institute "Urbanika". Ten teams participated in the competition; now we are showing the concepts that took six non-prize places in the jury's ranking.

Over the well-known falconry rays, the authors put a network of thirteen circular alleys of different sizes, one circle - one thematic route. Among the topics are the nature of forest reservoirs, animal trails, sports, fabulous, experimental transport; as well as an elk and horse route.

For better integration of Sokolniki into the urban environment, the authors of this project propose to make another entrance in the north, as well as to equip thirteen additional entrances and a sufficient number of parking areas. The main entrance on Sokolnichesky Val will be connected to a new median, throughout which visitors will be able to use various types of ecological transport: from rollers to segways. Also, mobile catering points will function here. A specially developed application for smartphones will allow you to navigate the park and learn about the ongoing events.

The authors propose a flexible implementation schedule, designed for three stages, and largely designed for sponsors and investors - who, for example, could develop equestrian sports or balneology in the park. Moreover, even small financial investments will lead to positive changes. With a minimum level of investment, it is quite possible to make a trail for horse riding, with an average level - create a theme park, with a high level - build a hippodrome.

The contestants tried to make their concept respectful of the existing place, creative and attractive enough, but at the same time quite realistic. In their opinion, the proposed changes will significantly expand the circle of visitors to the park - if now they are mainly residents of nearby areas, in the future excursionists from all over the city and the Moscow region, as well as tourists, will catch up.

6 / Four parks, forty forests, one Sokolniki Authors: Bureau MLA + B. V. and OPENFABRIC Landscape for Contemporary City (Netherlands), OPAS Architecture and Urban Strategies (Netherlands).

Sokolniki have tremendous potential: this is a huge territory, where there is a place for both walks and entertainment, and communication with nature. But now these identities appear rather as contrasts. The authors considered it expedient to balance the system and develop four parks in one at once: an amusement park, a city garden, a landscape and a natural park. Each of them will have its own unique character, meet different needs.

The three main entrances will be designed as themed zones (fountain square, sports and health square, forest square), places suitable for large-scale events. The main lanes will be transformed into “city garden” zones where day-to-day commercial activities will be concentrated. The central territories will become zones of a landscape park, more remote territories - natural forest zones, where you can explore the forest along trails and routes. The rich natural diversity has found its development in the concept of "forty forests" - the entire territory of the park can be divided into forty fragments with unique flora and fauna.

The authors believe that Sokolniki should be integrated into the green belt of Moscow, linking it with Ostankino Park and Izmailovsky Park along the Yauza River. A system of cycle paths and hiking trails will strengthen this link. The size of Sokolniki makes it possible to triple the current attendance without serious harm to nature, and zoning and competent program-event content will lead to a more even distribution of activity within the park.

Among other things, the authors developed criteria for the selection of program-event content for the park and an all-season calendar of events, as well as a new administrative structure and financial model.

7 / Retro development

Authors: Institute for Environmental Design and Research, Liga-Alef (Russia).

Taking inspiration from the rich past of the park, the authors took the idea of time travel as a basis. It is proposed to restore not only the lost material objects of different eras (dachas, cafes, pavilions, labyrinths), but also the images of the past: sounds, shadows, events.

The famous falconry rays in this project are interpreted thematically. In the beam of literature and art, it will be possible to see, for example, a video installation of the duel of Pierre Bezukhov and Fyodor Dolokhov. A pavilion-museum "Falconry", laser and light effects "Shadows of the Past", a street with a cafe, a glade for tea drinking will appear on the ray of history.

Other areas: Camping "Dachi", an active recreation area, an innovation area with "green" architecture, as well as New Axis - a former transit transport corridor designed exclusively for ecological transport.

In addition, the authors propose to create a park of Light and Shadows - light installations will not only illuminate parts of the forest and accentuate walking routes, but also create interesting effects: "light" rain and snow in summer, green meadows and golden foliage in winter, pictures and shadows from history parka. To implement their many ideas, the authors formulated an investment program and highlighted key financial indicators.

The authors of this project focused on solving the main problems of the park: reuniting it with the surrounding green areas and the Yauza River, restoring historical ties, developing new routes, redistributing activity throughout the territory, and creating an eco-transport system. The highlight was the unique system of the family of pavilions, "trigger points", ensuring uniform attendance of the park.

Fifty Sokolniki Gardens

Authors: Ove Arup & Partners International Limited

The impetus and starting point for the development of the park can be a major international event - for example, the Landscape Biennale, designed to glorify the nature and culture of our country. The authors of the project propose to divide the territory of the park into fifty sections, which will be dealt with by landscape architects and designers from all over the world every two years as part of the biennial. To develop the park, it is necessary to take four big steps in this way: protect the forest and the historical layout, think over the infrastructure, create a new major international event, and increase mobility within the park and its biodiversity with the help of water.
